July 2010:  The Gathering will be appearing at The Central Avenue Jazz Festival this Sunday, July 25th at 1:00pm.  More shows are in the works.

February 18th 2010:  We are on the verge of our wonderful show at Mimi's and both "Justice" and "Warriors All" are now up on CdBaby for download.  They both represent some

really important works from The Gathering and we hope they will touch and inspire many.  "Justice" by Abdu Salim was recorded live at The Jazz Bakery shortly after the election of

Barack Obama and is a celebration of that historic event.  It features Dwight Trible on voice and J.J. Kabasa doing a spoken word intro.  "Warriors All" by Horace Tapscott is from

a larger multi-part suite entitled "King Christophe" and is about about Henri Christophe and the struggle for Haiti's independence at the beginning of the 1800s.

February 7th 2010:  The Gathering live at Mimi's Jazz Salon on Sunday February 21st, at 2pm.  Call Mimi for details and to RSVP (818) 788-6199.

February 7th, 2010:

Premiere of "Justice" and "Warriors All" tonight on Mark Maxwell's Rise on KPFK (www.kpfk.org) after midnight.  You can listen live at their website.

Justice is now available for download at CDBaby and soon on iTunes and other download sites.  More on that to come.

January 14th, 2010:

Desert Fairy Princess Radio Mix is out now at www.cdbaby.com/thgathering and other songs coming too along with the whole album now available for digital download.  Delays were

caused by financial challenges.  We hope to be doing something next month in Leimert Park at Lucy Florence and will give updates accordingly.  The Angel City Jazz Festival appearance and the

concert in Pasadena at the Levitt Pavillion were a great success for The Gathering last year and we are grateful for all those that help and came and share in the music.  Bright Moments!

August 30th, 2009:

The radio mix single of Desert Fairy Princess will finally be available for digital download at www.cdbaby.com/thegathering within a week or so.  The entire CD will also be available for digital

download as well around about the same time.  In addition to that there will soon be a special release "Single" entitled Justice, featuring Dwight Trible along with a spoken work tribute to Barack

Obama's historic election buy J.J. Johnson that was recording live at The Jazz Bakery by Wayne Peet.  If you want to be notified by email of when the tracks are available you can click the link

"contact" link on the main page to email us and we will let you know.  As mentioned in the entry below The Gathering will be playing at the 2nd annual Angel City Jazz Festival this coming labor day

Augest 20th, 2009:

Yes is has been a year since updating this site.  A very rough one for me and I regret that there is not anyone else to help keep things rolling at this point beside Jess Sharps and myself.  We do

however have a couple of shows and some stuff going on.  This coming Sunday at The Levitt Pavillion in Pasadena at Pasadena Memorial park we will be performing a free concert.  On September

6th we will be part of the 2nd Annual Angel City Jazz Festival, during the second day of the festival on Sunday. This is a great festival and really worth attending.  Beyond that there is a pending

release of a single recorded at The Jazz Bakery last year called "Justice" featuing Dwight Trible as well as a spoken word tribute piece to Barack Obama buy J.J. Johnson.  The song is a great

composition of one of Jesse's mentor's Abdul Salim.  I will make a better effort to update the site. -Tom Paige

August 26th, 2008:

"A belated thanks to Mark Maxwell for a beautiful time at KPFK on Sunday night, August 10th sharing the music of the gathering.  He played the entire song Desert Fairy Princess, all

wonderful 26 minutes of it, followed by a nice interview, and then Language of Saxophones, Kamau's wonderful selection on the album.  We were promoting the release of the album and

also the show at Mimi's Jazz Salon in the 24th, this past Sunday.  The show was wonderful.  Jesse Sharps brought in Nate Morgan on Piano Kamasi Washington on Tenor Saxophone,

Roberto Miranda on bass, Khoron Harrison on drums, Kamau Daaood with the spoken word, and Dwight Trible on voice.  It was recorded live and videotaped.  The big CD releas and

show is being set up at The Jazz Bakery for November 16th after Jesse gets back from a 2 month stint in Germany.  Check back for more details and remember that you can get the CD at

www.cdbaby.com/thegathering, at Ameoba music, Poo Bah records, and Esowan Books in Leimert Park.

August 8th, 2008:

"Just got off the air with Carlos Nino on Spaceways Radio, at KPFK, 90.7 in Los Angeles.  News about Warriors All, as mentioned on the radio.  It looks like we are getting closer to

having a digital release of Horace Tapscott's Classic Composition, as recording by The Leimert Park band for The Gathering.  .  We could not fit all of the songs on the CD and doing a d

ouble album would have been to costly.  Fortunately there are alternatives now and we are working on a digital release at this time that can be linked through this website and CD Baby.

Stay tuned for more details.

August 7th, 2008:

"GOODNEWS!  The album is out.  While things did not go exactly as hoped in the previous posting and Kindred Spirits was not able to pick up the album we are however  releasing the

album this month.  We could not wait any longer.  The music and the musicians deserved to be heard.  We are doing a limited release of 1000 CDs.  Rush Hour, sister company to Kindred

Spirits, has agreed to do distribution in Europe and Japan.  This is good news.  The album will be available on CD Baby at www.cdbaby.com/thegathering and at several stores throughout

greater Los Angeles.  Friday August 8th, Jesse Sharps will be on Spaceways Radio with Carlso Nino at 90.7 KPFK at 8:30pm.  The Gathering will perform at The World Stage Jazz

Festival in Leimert Park on Sunday, August 10th at 3:30pm[4344 Degnan Boulevard | Los Angeles, CA 90008 (one block east of Crenshaw, north of Vernon

between 43rd Place and 43rd Street).]  Jesse Sharps and Tom Paige will also be on Rise with Mark Maxwell, Sunday night at from 11pm on 90.7, KPFK.  On Sunday August

24th The Gathering will be performing at an intimate Jazz Salon with Jesse Sharps, reeds; Phil Ranelin, trombone; Nate Morgan, piano; Roberto Miranda, bass; Karon

Harrison, drums; Dwight Trible, vocals, Kamau Daaood, poetry.  call Mimi at (818) 788-6199.

December 5th, 2007:

"Well the time has finally come it appears to forego the opportunity for release through one of the labels we have been pursuing.  It does appear the Kindred Spirits, a

European label that just released the new Build An Ark album is interested in a distribution deal.  I, Tom Paige, realize that this site and the news here is quite delayed and

for that I apologize.  I wish that I could dedicate all of my time to The Gathering and the Horace Tapscott documentary I am working on but the job that provides me the

the funds and the tools to facilitate both often presents itself as a double edged sword that requires tremendous time and effort.  Jesse and I were really hoping a label would

pick up the album and provide some additional support for the project.  Still, a distribution deal from Kindred Spirits will help.  For know we are working on putting together a

limited first run, self-release.   Further details will follow.  I will try to be more timely with the News updates.  Bright Moments!  -Tom Paige

November 26th, 2006:

"The Gathering: Leimert Park - Roots and Branches of Los Angeles Jazz album is currently being shopped around at several independent labels.  A short work in

progress film has been completed.  Funds and/or collaboration is being sought to complete the feature length version of the film as either a separate release of dual

release with the album.  At this time Tom Paige has been working in the role of executive producer and co-producer with Jesse Sharps on both the album as well as

the documentary. Tom Paige is currently in production on another documentary about Horace Tapscott in addition to working full-time at a post-production house in

Santa Monica, California.  Jesse Sharps is in Stuttgart, Germany on an extended performance schedule and should return in February, 2006."

October 15th, 2006:

"The mixing of the album was finally finished.  Due to time constraints and other concerns Warriors All was not able to make it on the album.  It will be released

as an exclusive digital release and included in the feature length film as a complete music video celebrating all of the warriors from the community and beyond that

contributed to the music and the culture that The Gathering celebrates.  The album opens with Peyote Song #3 by Jesse Sharps, followed by The Language of

Saxophones by Kamau Daaood (featuring the title poem of Kamau's recent chapbook on City Lights, set to a group led and selected by Kamau to improvise along

with his recitation).  The next song is Desert Fairy Princess by Jesse Sharps, with words composed and sung by Dwight Trible.  It is followed by Agony in the Garden,

a program piece that Roberto Miranda composed through improvisation, leading the band as conductor, with the group separated into sections.  The album is closes with

a scorching rendition of Lately's Solo, a signature piece of The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra."
